General Questions
Tattoos are permanent, but the ink can fade away with time in areas that are often exposed to the sun or if not properly cared for, or on areas where the skin is very thin and meets a lot of friction, like your fingers. If you want to test one out before committing to a permanent tattoo, check out our temporary options.
Any puncture to the skin carries risk of infection. Before getting a tattoo, check that it is performed in a reputable salon under sanitary conditions by a trained and licensed artist who follows proper sterilization procedures and takes other precautions such as wearing gloves, face masks, etc. A good artist should be able explain the procedure and demonstrate what will happen without making you feel like you’re asking too many questions. Fresh Ink artists only use sterile, single-use, disposable needles and equipment so you can rest assured we put a premium on safety.
We charge by the hour with a one-hour minimum of $100. Your final cost will depend on the total time required to complete your tattoo. A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the appointment hours blocked will be required at the time of booking. Email us to get an estimate on how long your work will take.
It is not advisable to get a tattoo if your immune system is compromised in any way; if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding; if you have severe allergies; if you have a communicable disease; if you are taking certain medications such as blood thinners, or if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Aside from the obvious —what image/text you want tattooed and where you want it done— consider:
1) What dimensions you would like
2) Is the size appropriate for the body part?
3) Will you use color?
4) Do you want it visible on an average day?
5) Will this be a standalone design or will it be incorporated with others in the future?
6) Will the design and level of detail work in this medium— i.e. tattoo ink on skin?
Our artists will be happy to answer your questions.
A reputable artist should be knowledgeable about the tattoo and aftercare process, have a current license visibly displayed, and be able to show you examples of past work. He or she should make you feel comfortable and should get your absolute approval before starting any work. No matter how talented, if an artist is being disrespectful, isn’t paying attention to your questions, or acts like he’s doing you a favor, it’s time to find another one.
For small and medium-sized tattoos, a 15-minute consultation is included with your appointment free of charge. For larger and more complex tattoos (like sleeves, half sleeves, back pieces, etc.) we do require that you book a separate Design Consultation appointment first. This will allow you and your artist ample time to talk through your ideas and design and answer any questions you may have before coming in for your longer tattoo appointment.
